Tales from the Hump
Growing up in the American heartland in the 60's was so much different from growing up today. This book takes you on a journey as the author goes from first grade up until middle school, spanning almost the entire decade. Consisting of a series of short essays about riding bikes, playing games, traveling, fishing, family life, and more, you will be taken back 60 years, to what small town life was back in the day. Some chapters bring laughter, some bring tears, some just tell a story. But they all will have you thinking, and looking back on your own childhood.
Why I wrote it
I tell a lot of stories. Maybe too many. One time my wife Jeanne told me to "Write these things down!" Maybe she was encouraging me, maybe she was tired of hear them. I'll never know for sure. But I started doing just that.
Now, why would anyone want to read stories of my childhood? That was my question, for sure. But as I wrote these stories and shared them with other people, they really seemed to like them. Then, I started writing a column for The Beacon, a local paper, and quite a few people told me how much they liked these stories. While most of my columns were NOT from this book, some were. And people appreciated them. So here they are. No, I'm nobody famous, but many of you "of a certain age" will relate to these. Because similar things probably happened to you.
